Mock Trial

Storm Lake Middle School had three teams consisting of 27 students travel to Sioux City, Iowa, to compete in the Middle School Mock Trial. Mock trial is a program designed to introduce students to our legal system by providing a challenging, academic competition. The program offers students an opportunity for personal growth and achievement, emphasizing the importance of research, presentation, and teamwork.

Over the last 15 years, the Iowa Bar Association has been challenged to create more difficult cases as student skills continue to improve through experience and practice.  Nearly 2,000 middle school students participate in the Iowa Middle School Mock Trial program, the largest in the nation.

We are very proud of our students who studied and presented the case of the State of Iowa vs. Baskin Robinson. Outstanding Witness awards were given to Tiahna Burton, Madison Stull and Landon DeMoss while Outstanding Attorney awards were given to Hser Ku Htoo and Arely Ramirez. Special thanks to Phil Havens for helping as our attorney coach.
