On Friday, November 21st a visiting artist, Anita Jung came to work with the 7th grade AVID class during art class.  Anita Jung is a print-maker and professor at the University of Iowa.  She has been commissioned to create a piece of artwork for the new Hancher Auditorium set to open in 2016.  She has chosen to work with seventh graders from seven communities from the state of Iowa.  Storm Lake is one of the communities chosen!  She came on Friday to help the students create a mind map about what performance means to them.  Then they took a selfie for the art project.  The art students are going to trace their selfie and draw with words to describe performance.  Then some of them will be used for the new Hancher Auditorium.  Here are a few pictures from the day.

In the Spotlight

Ahoy me mateys!

Mrs. Harder's third and fourth grade reading group has been working on a pirate themed Reader's Theatre. Students were excited to dress up like pirates and perform for students around Storm Lake Elementary.

We are making music! The Middle School Music Department is excited to present their winter concert on December 2nd at the Middle School.

The concert will feature the first performance of the 5th grade band, seasonal selections by the 6th grade band, some great orchestral works by the 5th and 6th grade orchestra, and toe tapping tunes sung by the entire 5th grade class.

Come join us in the Middle School gym at 7:00 pm. Share in the fun!

TLC Cares Club is donating blankets that they made by hand to CAASA. These students worked very hard and are proud of their accomplishment. They had a lot of questions for Jenny from CAASA. So far they have made 6 fleece blankets and continue to want to help others! What a great group of caring kids!
